Mary McGillivray is an Australian art historian and content creator making visual culture analysis accessible for the next generation.
She holds a Masters degree in History of Art and Architecture from the University of Cambridge, and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne.
Mary is a writer and presenter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation where she can be found writing for ABC News, on the flagship arts program ‘The Art Of’, and on the ABC’s social media accounts bringing art history to the Australian public.
Since 2020, Mary has amassed an online following of over 500 thousand followers across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, and she has worked with museums, art galleries and cultural institutions across Australia, the UK, and Europe to bring their collections to a massive online audience of highly engaged young viewers.
Her collaborations include the UK Art Fund, Visit Europe (funded by the European Union), National Gallery London, National Gallery Victoria, and the Australian Institute for Art History, Public Galleries Association Victoria, the ZKM Centre for Art and Media, and ABC Education.
Mary has also partnered with TikTok Australia and Changer to consult on educational programs, and spoken about social media best practice for arts and culture organisations at conferences, including MuseumNext Digital Summit and Remix Sydney.
